Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault Bomb Path Guide
Mark, hit, detonate — the 1.0 explosive perk branch explained.
Bomb Path is Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault’s explosive perk branch from the 2 September 2026 version 1.0 launch. It is a fifth perk track alongside Fire, Thunder, Ice, Poison, Hex, and Foam — not a weapon class and not a replacement for your melee kit. The mechanic is three steps: mark an enemy, land enough hits to fill the charge meter, then watch it detonate and damage nearby foes. Fast weapons stack marks fastest. This page is the bomb mechanic sheet so you can decide whether to chase the shrine and how to pair it with a class you already know. Biome context lives in Dungeons. Perk context sits in Builds. Hardcore is on Hardcore.
The game is single-player. There are no codes that trigger detonations. If you cannot land enough hits to charge a mark, a slower weapon is not your problem — practice your roll and aim first.
How Bomb Path works
Bomb Path marks enemies with an explosive charge. Each hit from any source adds charge. Once the charge quota is reached, the enemy detonates, dealing damage to the target and any neighbors in blast radius. The mechanic rewards weapons with fast attack rates because more hits per second means faster charge stacking.
The perk path is available from the moment you enter a dungeon after 1.0 launches. Shrine appearance is random, like Thunder or Poison. There is no story gate blocking Bomb Path itself — only RNG on whether the shrine appears in a given run.
Key rules:
- Every hit adds charge, regardless of damage. A 1-damage poison tick counts the same as a full slash.
- The detonation damages nearby enemies, making Bomb Path strongest in crowded rooms.
- Bosses can hold multiple charges if you keep hitting them after the first detonation.
- Bomb Path does not trigger Rupture. It is separate from backpack smash mechanics.
Which weapons pair best
Bomb Path wants attack speed. The faster you swing, the faster the charge fills. Rank the four classes:
Gauntlets — fastest melee attack rate. Best Bomb Path vehicle. Stack charges in seconds, detonate, repeat. Berserk uptime also means you stay aggressive, which is exactly what the path rewards.
Short sword — four-hit string with a fast last hit. Good charge stacking, especially with Endless Sword’s piercing special.
Spear — reach lets you hit from safer angles, but the base attack rate is slower than gauntlets. Endless Spear’s head-spending burst window can be combined with a full charge for extra burst.
Large sword — slowest base attack. Marks stack slowly. Use Bomb Path here only if you are already a large-sword main and accept the trade-off.
Guns — each pellet adds charge. Shotguns like Blo-Blaster can add multiple charge pips per shot. Not a primary Bomb Path weapon, but useful for chip-filling.
Bomb Path in builds
Bomb Path is an S-tier perk on the builds list when paired with gauntlets or a fast short sword. The detonation radius scales with the number of charges, so a fully charged enemy explodes harder than a minimally triggered one. Pair it with:
- Thunder — chain lightning after detonation creates secondary crowd control.
- Hex — curses that spread on kill combine with bomb detonations for area denial.
- Berserk — gauntlet builds that stay aggressive fill charges naturally.
Bomb Path is not a reason to abandon a class you have already mastered. If you love the spear’s reach, use Bomb Path on the spear. The detonation reward is the same; the vehicle is personal preference.
Farming Bomb Path shrines
Shrines appear randomly in dungeon ? rooms. The path does not require a specific biome or Vault key to appear. Runs with multiple ? tiles are better Bomb Path farming runs than runs with one long corridor. There is no guaranteed shrine seed — each run is independent RNG.
If a radar shows several ? rooms on a map, clear the path toward them before spending a shrine charge on a boss. Bomb Path shrines are most valuable when you can detonate across three or more enemies in a single room.
What Bomb Path does not do
- It does not replace your weapon’s normal damage. The base hit still deals weapon damage; the bomb is a bonus.
- It does not trigger Rupture or interact with backpack objects.
- It does not ignore armor or resistance. Bosses with damage reduction still take reduced bomb damage.
- It does not unlock a fifth weapon slot. You still run one melee plus one gun.
Bomb Path is a perk path, the same category as Thunder, Poison, or Hex. Treat it the same way you treat those branches: take it when the shrine appears, build around it if you are making a dedicated kit, and do not reset a save to hunt it specifically.
Quick reference
| Weapon class | Bomb compatibility | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Gauntlets | Best | Fastest attack rate; best charge stacking |
| Short sword | Good | Fast string, good charge speed |
| Spear | Moderate | Reach helps; slower than gauntlets |
| Large sword | Weak | Slowest charge stacking |
| Gun | Moderate | Pellets add charge; not primary use |

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
What is Bomb Path in Moonlighter 2?
A 1.0 perk branch that marks enemies with explosive charges. Land enough hits and the enemy detonates, damaging nearby foes. It is not a weapon class.
Which weapon works best with Bomb Path?
Gauntlets have the fastest attack rate and stack charges fastest. Short swords are a close second. Large swords are the weakest vehicle for Bomb Path.
Does Bomb Path work on bosses?
Yes, bosses can hold charges and detonate. They require more hits to charge fully, but the detonation and any splash damage still apply.
Can I use Bomb Path with Hex or Thunder?
Yes. Bomb Path, Hex, and Thunder are separate perk branches that stack. Combining bomb detonations with Hex spread or Thunder chain creates strong area control.
Do I need a specific Vault key for Bomb Path?
No. Bomb Path shrines appear randomly in dungeon ? rooms after the 1.0 launch. There is no story or gold gate blocking the path itself.
